One of these most immediately heartwrenching cels I've ever seen. It's impact is immediate tugging at your heart strings wether or not you've seen the film. For those of us who have had the pleasure of seeing the film the image is doubly as powerful. Kamui has just witnessed The person he loves most in the world being ripped away from him by the second love of his life made infintely worse given that he had pledged his life and soul to protect them both no matter what the cost. Now he can do nothing more than share a last grieving moment with Kotori before his fate pushes him even further into a tragic spiral of death, destruction and grief.
This cel tied for 1st place in the death/dying category in the 2008 anime beta awards. unaltered scan is in the sketch slot.
